The preparation phase of the material mixtures is essential to the whole paper production cycle: only a perfectly controlled preparation of the fibrous materials will achieve certain properties, such as porosity, weight, tensile strength, opacity, texture and whiteness. Many of these properties are critical to meeting runnability standards of the high-speed production processes used by cigarette manufacturers. For the mixture, Cartiera del Maglio utilises only E.C.F. and T.C.F. cellulose derived from flax, hemp, wood or esparto. At the end of the production line, special machines slit and wind the end product on bobbins, which are then loaded onto pallets by an automated system so as to reduce manual handling to a minimum.
