Cartiera del Maglio has inherited a long tradition of paper production. The first cigarette papers were produced in 1926, but the history of Cartiera del Maglio started long before that.

Documents dating back to 1435 record the existence of a mill in the Bolognese Apennine region and its famous copper hammer or “maglio” that gave the name to the area.

Cartiera Marescalchi was founded in 1765 in the same location to produce mainly writing paper, followed by Cartiera Ruggeri in 1895 and then by Cartiera del Maglio in 1926 specialising in cigarette papers.

Hence, the current modern, automated production process has historical roots. This ancient tradition and the constant search for quality is the common thread that has allowed Cartiera del Maglio to become the official supplier to numerous State monopolies and important cigarette manufacturers around the globe.
